The big event for me happened in 1941 when, to my surprise, a work of mine which I consider to be a beginning one, invested with all the clumsiness and the words put with little artistic skill, Symphonic Variations on a romanian folk theme Trecui valea (Crossing the valley) won the George Enescu award. This first contact through which the great master became aware of my modest existence was the first great impulse to continue the path once begun. It was probably a confirmation, coming from George Enescu himself, that I would have some chances to continue this path, to utter a few syllables in musical creation field, at least in Transylvania region, because I feel myself an inborn Transylvanian.
